The shrub, known as the ‘red bush’ in English, or scientifically called Aspalathus linearis, is treated as precious cargo following harvest time, when it is bundled and conveyed to the factory for cutting. It is this process which results in the distinctive and desirable rich ruby red-brown colour for which rooibos tea is renowned.
